Understand PEACE as a condition of satisfied mind when a human need is met. Every human act is aimed at fulfilling one or other human need. A study of the hierarchy of human needs and methods to fulfill them is, hence, an important part in the search for peace.
The satisfaction, and resulting peace achieved when, basic materialistic human needs are met, are temporary and not lasting. “Peace” achieved by fulfilling one’s needs at the expense of fellow human beings and the society is also not lasting; that could even result in opposite results and lead to conflicts . Instead of Peace it may bring a sense of guilt. For example, a thief, a smuggler or a drug dealer may satisfy his material needs that lead a pleasureful life but his soul will be weeping inside and he will be driven by sense of guilt. In extreme cases he becomes a hardcore ‘successful’ criminal. Then he may not even be aware of the lamentation of his soul and know about needs of his soul…
In order to reach a state of mind filled with peace and joy, progressive fulfillment of body’s, mind’s and soul’s needs should happen. This lasting and sustainable peace can be understood and achieved through self development and personal growth. As an individual grow in spirit and an urge for meeting his soul’s needs is fired up, lower, material needs become subsidiary . The person, then, strives to fulfill the needs of emancipated SELF. He will start identifying with fellow human beings and nature. That will be the start of the march towards sustainable peace. As a building is built by strong quality bricks, a peaceful society can be built only by members who are matured self developed individuals working as missionaries of peace.
Peace, achieved through this process, is not a onetime event. It is a continually evolving process, sustained by the contribution of the society’s members.
‘Peace’ negotiated and enforced are broken because the people involved in the conflict are not trained through this enlightenment process.
